By night he shifts from being an overpriced art-hooker to giving out exhaustive 10-cent mustache rides to whomever and whatever is willing to climb aboard. Clad in vintage band T-shirts and sporting aviator frames, this boy pouts his lips and bats his eyelashes better than the Pillsbury Doughboy can shit out donuts. Hunter first gained notoriety on YouTube in late 2009 after entering a creative makeup contest held by sisters Sam and Nic on the well-known YouTube channel, Pixiwoo. Beating out most of the competition (myself included) his work was chosen as one of the top ten pieces by which the viewers chose their winner. He describes his music as a mix of American post-punk New Wave and classic British Glam Rock. With a vocal range spanning nearly tens of notes, this boy strums guitar and sings better than most panhandlers on the New York City Subways. Along with guitar, he is also a skilled pianist and owns a bass. His sound is reminiscent of a bunch of groups from the late 70's and 80's that I never had the pleasure, or in some cases the displeasure, of screaming along with at a New Jersey area - After all, I AM a 90's kid. (Might I just take a second to point out that he's ancient in gay years?) Personally, my favorite song of his is "Benediction." Not only did I have to Google what the word "Benediction" actually meant, I also had to take a cold shower after listening to it a few times. His voice seeps through my headphones like a smooth martini straight into my ears and sends dirty thoughts all throughout. I've never had anyone ear-rape me so gently since Joshua Radin. (I swear I was a virgin for both times.) With a rubber chicken for a sidekick and the charm of a hungry drag queen, Dustin Hunter is ready to take over YouTube through his channel, and molest you aurally with his music, which can be found on dustysrecords.com. Other fun Facts: He's an arachnophobe, loathes Piper Perabo simply for the name, and wears briefs MOST of the time. |

Q. What kind of camera do you use to record video? A. I use a JVC Everio GZ-HD7U camcorder. You can find them here and there on-line now for about half the price I paid for it (It's the only thing I've ever purchased and experienced buyers' remorse afterward - LOL). For "arty" stuff I also have a DOF adaptor that I purchased from a third party independent company. It turns the JVC into something that looks more like traditional film. You can see the effect in a short video that I created for National Coming Out Day. Q. What kind of camera do you use to take still shots? A. For still images I use a Canon Rebel XSi digital camera with a variety of macro lenses and filters (for close-up and product shorts). I've come to rely on the overcast Pacific Northwest weather to provide me with the perfect natural light to shoot product images and swatches by (one of the benefits of living under a gigantic glowing fluorescent light I suppose). Q. Do you or have you ever worked for MAC? A. No. I have never worked for MAC or any other cosmetics company for that matter. Q. Where do you get your inspiration for your "Kick Ass Lips" series lip looks? A. I get a lot of inspiration for makeup from magazines. Vintage fashion magazines or catalogs are a ton of fun to peruse. I'm also motivated a great deal by movies. I'm a huge science fiction nut when it comes to films so there are often some interesting makeup looks to glean inspiration from. The lip looks often come from just playing around in a mirror though. I love lipstick and when I'm just home and killing time by myself - I often get out lipstick, glosses, Pigments, etc. and start playing around, seeing what I can come up with! |
