| Q: 24K
LASHES I have bought this pair of eyelashes, and really want them to be gold. I was wondering if you thought It'd be a good idea to spray paint them gold, I didn't know if the paint would irritate the skin of the model. (Of course I would not be spray painting them on the model LOL!) This is only for a photo shoot, so they would not be worn for too long. Should I spray paint them, or do you have a better idea on what to do to make them gold? Mario I honestly don't think that spray paint would be a HORRIBLE idea (but I'm into post-apocalyptic kamikaze makeup techniques myself) and if everyone is up for it, then what the hell, why not? If you wanted to err on the side of caution though, I'd recommending using some kind of pigment or loose eyeshadow product to brush on or blend with a mixing medium and paint on. MAC has Metal Pigments that are ultra-fine milled and impart a HEAP TON of color! For this I'd say their Pigment in Gold would work GREAT! If you don't want to spring for a whole jar - I believe Gold and Rose Gold (both Metal Pigments) are available at counters now so you can go to any MAC and ask for a sample (a sample would give you more than enough for painting lashes). Just mix the Pigment with something that will allow you to paint in on the lashes (clear mascara would work) and you're good to go! Good luck! Keep me posted! I'd love to see the photos when they are done! UPDATE: Mario was kind enough to email me whith an update when the photos were taken: ![]() View his blog for more photos! Thanks Mario! Q: MAC's MYTH (or) MYTHTIFIED?! My favorite lipstick is Myth my MAC, but I find that when I take pictures the flash from the camera makes my lips look almost white. Its very trashy, yet i LOVE the nudeness of the lipstick. I've tried blending it with Angel, and Lady Gaga's new one, but it makes my lips very pasty, dry, and cracked looking. What color, gloss, or technique do you suggest I take when applying Myth? If I were to blend it with a different color, I would want it to be a very light pink or pinkish color. It still looks very white-ish when I do though. Lindsay I checked into this one to see if what I was thinking was correct - And I think what you're experiencing is a problem with the Titanium Dioxide in Myth. Almost all - if not all - of MAC's lipsticks have a certain amount of Titanium Dioxide in them. It's a natural occuring compound (also called Titanium White) that is used as a type of pigment in cosmetics. It's perfectly safe but does reflect light. Therefor products with higher amounts of Titanium Dioxide will appear lighter, sometimes even white, in flash photography. One idea that will keep the look of Myth but help to loose some of the "ghost lips" that you see in photography is to use it as a highlight over a less pale (but still nude) lipstick or pencil. For example: Take a color like MAC's Creme de Nude, Peachstock or even Velvet Teddy (depending on your skintone) and apply it all over like you normally would. Then take Myth and dab it mostly in the center, avoiding the outer edges of your lips. This will do two things: 1) It will act as a highlight against a darker base making your lips look naturally fuller. 2) Since Myth is sitting mostly in the center of the lip, having it read as white in photos won't be as big of a deal because your WHOLE mouth won't be white, you'll just look highlighted! |
Q:
NATURAL FOUNDATION for MEN
Joel That chalky look is the mattifying that powder products often give. For men, a matte face is a dead giveaway that you're wearing makeup (people aren't naturally that matte). If you wanted to stay in the MAC family, I would steer you towards two products: Either Face and Body (no powder needed, looks just like your own skin and offers light to medium coverage) or Studio Moisture Tint (even lighter coverage than Face and Body AND it's readily available at counters; Face and Body is a MAC store only or online purchase). If you need a little powder just to cut the shine throughout the day, my personal favorite is MAC's Blot powder because it doesn't impart color and doesn't LOOK like powder when it's on. Just remember, if you aren't using a brush for powder, to press it into the skin, don't rub, you'll get streaks and end up with way too much product on your face. Q: WHICH RED IS THE RIGHT RED?
Kendal Good fashion-sense and color theory will tell you that those of us with pink and blue undertones to their skin should wear blue-based reds and peach or yellow-toned folks should stick with warmer, orange-based reds. In my opinion, red lipstick - Especially bright red - is more of an attitude than a lipstick color. You have to be comfortable in it if you don't want to look like a clown. That being said... Blue-based reds like "Russian Red" by MAC are very bright but still very pretty. "Ruby Woo" is a favorite of mine (also a blue-based red) but it IS brighter than "Russian Red" ("Russian Red" was the color Madonna was wearing in her Blonde Ambition days). I favor blue-based reds because they are very TRUE looking reds (when I imagine the color red, a blue-based red is what I see). Orange-based reds are louder and more tomato looking (If you have Target stores in your area, "Target Red" as I call it, is an orange-based red. "Lady Danger" by MAC is a good red in this color family. I find that orange-based reds can look a little neon and are harder to pull off. Here's what I think, if you want BRIGHT red look at "Lady Danger." If that's too bright go to "Ruby Woo." If that's too bright still, look at "Russian Red" (which I think you would like the most out of the three). If those are STILL to bright then look at deeper blue-based reds like, "MAC Red" or "Viva Glam" (the first Viva Glam lipstick MAC launched). Once you get there if you don't see something you like, I'd look at colors like "Viva Cyndi" or "Lady Bug," they're both Lustre finishes and not nearly as opaque or bright as most of these other lipsticks. One last thing though: If you have the bucks to spend, take a look at Chanel's Rouge Allure Laque's. "Dragon" is an AMAZINGLY good looking red. Best red I think I've ever seen. It's a deep but vibrant, very true red with the slightest bit of pearl in it, had the most amazing texture and is insanely flattering on any skintone. |
